Ag Machinery Mate was engaged to check out this Australian Made Legend. A Baldwin DM400 offered at a recent clearing sale near Condobolin NSW.
Powered by a CAT 3406 with 18 Speed Road Ranger transmission. With over 14,000 hours on the engine, we took an SOS oil sample, along with a rear diff sample to send to Hastings Deering.
While driving the tractor around I could hear rear diff howl/noise and decided that was a good oil sample to take.
Engine oil sample showed signs of wear and high Iron contaminates, indicating engine rebuild is possibly imminent. But the rear diff sample came back with no signs of wear.
With it selling for over $150,000 and the intention to put this tractor back in the field pulling offsets - that oil test information becomes vital to any purchasing decision.
